Sinical Magazine: When were you born and where? Where are you currently located?
Elegy Ellem: I was born in north Sweden in a very small town. It was a very cold but beautiful place to grow up. We were out in the nature all year round and I miss the snow sometimes now living in warmer Stockholm in mid Sweden.
Sinical Magazine: How did you get started in modeling?
Elegy Ellem: I was contacted by photographers when I was about 18. I didn´t have the self esteem to start modeling then but the idea was born and I did my first shoot when I was 21. After that I slowly started getting into it and did more and more photo shoots and then in 2009 I moved to Stockholm and started modeling part time.
Sinical Magazine: What was the first magazine you came across that made you want to become a model? If not a magazine, what inspired you?
Elegy Ellem: I wasn´t inspired by a magazine exactly. I was inspired by other alternative models, movies, some comic books and magazines. I wanted to be one of those amazing girls, the idea of being able to portray anyone I wanted intrigued me. I could be a supervillain, a superhero, a sexy woman or a geeky girl. I loved the transformations the girls did in their shoots and I also loved the artistic side to it. Everything from makeup and hairstyling to clothing, the process of shooting and the ideas and work behind poses intrigued me and made me want to pursue it for artistic reasons as well as curiosity to find out if I could also be one of those women in the photos that seemed so powerful and mysterious.
Sinical Magazine: What do you think makes a model stand out from others?
Elegy Ellem: Her creativity and skill. And of course her appearance. A unique face and body is of course essential. But also to be able to transform, find new ways to show of your own face and body and keep it interesting. I feel you can always tell if someone puts work down on their shoots. Everything from styling to poses to the set needs to work together, and it´s very much up to the model to make this work in her own way.
Sinical Magazine: From a model’s perspective, what do you think is the most important aspect of a photo?
Elegy Ellem: The thought and passion behind it. If there´s work put into the shoot, it will show in the result. It doesn´t have to be about hours of styling every time, or the most skilled photographer, or even the most beautiful model, it can be something as simple as having straight or curly hair or doing that pose rather than this pose. To know how to work with what you are given and make it work.
Sinical Magazine: Clothing wise, what are your fetishes and why?
Elegy Ellem: I love latex, heels, fully seamed stocking and vintage lingerie, as manyt girls do! But I wouldn´t call them my fetishes, rather my preferences. This would also go for a well made corset. I´d say corsets come closer to being a fetish as I very much enjoy the restricted feeling of wearing them. I enjoy other fetishes personally. But for my modeling I very much love the way latex makes me feel almost invincible, I truly feel like a supervillain in a black catsuit that fits me just right. I want my latex very tight. Vintage lingerie and fully fashioned stockings give me a feel of glamour that it hard to beat. And heels almost speak for themselves, how they make your legs a mile longer, shapes your entire body, and if they´re really high heels they make your walk different, and even restrict you from certain things, which I find enticing.
Sinical Magazine: What type of music do you listen to?
Elegy Ellem: I listen to everything and anything that is good! My favourite band is 16 horsepower. If you haven´t heard them, you´ve missed out. I base my music on my current mood and go for specific songs rather than artists. My playlists are always completely schizophrenic and drive everyone crazy. One day I listen to nothing but Marilyn Manson, the next it´s some strange experimental band no one´s ever heard of, and the day after i´s old classics like Johnny Cash.
Sinical Magazine: What is the alt/fetish scene like in your city?
Elegy Ellem: Very small, Stockholm being a very small city, But also very friendly. We have a great club called Dekadance where I love to go. They do shows, different type of themed clubs. Swedish people are tolerant, but also shy and quite secretive. I travel a lot for work within my modeling and perfoming.
Sinical Magazine: Besides modeling, what else do you like to do for fun?
Elegy Ellem: When I´m not working, which is most of the time, I prefer to take it easy. I like to hang out with my loved ones, watch movies, cook good food, eat loads of ice cream, be out in nature, and riding my snowboard. Unfortunately, I don´t have much free time working a full-time job on top of modeling and performing. So to be honest I usually just pass out in front of a movie or under a book when I have time off.
Sinical Magazine: What’s up next for you?
Elegy Ellem: Right now I´m planning shoots, magazine features and shows for 2014. I´m traveling to America in April, England, Germany, France and many more places. Hopefully you can catch one of my shows in your country this year, and maybe even see me in some magazines and hopefully even some covers. I take it as it comes but plan ahead and try to have as much fun as possible along the way!
