Interview: Nik Guerra

Magenta - Girl With a Gun

Nik Guerra is an illustrator and painter based in Marina di Massa - Tuscany, Italy. This interview was featured in Sinical 18. Print copies can be purchased here.

Sinical Magazine: When did you first realize you were an artist?

Nik Guerra: I’ve been drawing ever since I was a child. After studies, I felt that creating illustrations and comics had to be part of my professional life. Being an artist is something that’s inside you when you get born, still, managing to turn this to your job is such a true challenge in life.

Sinical Magazine: When was your first artwork published?

Nik Guerra: During the 1990’s a series of my pinups got published on an Italian gothic culture magazine called Ver Sacrum. Afterwards, since year 2002, I started making my sexy fetish noir comics for the French, the Italian and the American market.

Charlotte and Coco

Sinical Magazine: Can you explain your art process and technique?

Nik Guerra: It usually starts as a team work with my partner-in-crime Cristina YouBadGirl, who is a handmade fashion artist and a comics story scriptwriter. We sketch and determine the mood, the pose, the ideal graphic output for the piece and afterwards, I create the original artwork.

That’s the way all the famous characters from my comics and art books were born. From Magenta (the dark haired heroine, sexy noir thief and detective) to Coco Von Sade (lustful painter in a huge Victorian hat).

Sinical Magazine: What type of pens and brushes do you use?

Nik Guerra: Pens that have the micro pigment ink for waterproof and fade proof fine lines, whereas regarding the brushes, no very particular pick, what’s relevant to me is that they must not shed.

Coco - Piedi D'artistra

Sinical Magazine: What type of paints do you use?

Nik Guerra: Coloured pencils, watercolours, Pantone colour felt-tip pens, acrylic paint frequently mixed with graphite finish.

Sinical Magazine: You paint a lot of pin up style portraits. Can you tell us about your fascination with pinup?

Nik Guerra: I love the dimension, the life and the story that a single pinup image is able to communicate. I love to get its expressive force, whether it is intentionally erotic or not.

In my case, this pinup art is the dimension in which Magenta, Coco Von Sade and my other comics heroines, are reintroduced in a special and never before seen format as opposed to their comics.

Magenta - Sexy Nail

Sinical Magazine: Your pin up girls are often wearing stockings. Is this an obsession of yours?

Nik Guerra: Undeniably, the presence of stockings accentuates the female figure sensuality. My pin up heroines often wear them because their look always makes a strong impact. All in all, the obsession turned to a graphic necessity that aims at emphasizing the fascination of my pin up figures.

Sinical Magazine: How much do you sell your art work for and where can people buy your art?

Nik Guerra: I’m fair and honest with my prices, which validate my career of more than 20 years of hard work experience. My available art pieces can be seen in my Etsy shop that should be kept an eye on, as the range of my artworks varies frequently. Otherwise you can email me for orders ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Lucry's Magic Feet

Sinical Magazine: Do you listen to music when you create your art? If so, what kind of music?

Nik Guerra: Yes, I’m always listening to music when I work on my art, I like Italian progressive music from the 70’s in particular.

Sinical Magazine: Besides your art, what else do you like to do?

Nik Guerra: Obviously, I love listening to music, as well as reading books on cinema and art.

Magenta - Tclac!

Sinical Magazine: Are there in upcoming publications or projects you would like to mention?

Nik Guerra: These days, I’m getting to work on a colour book that will offer a mix of sexy, fetish, gothic horror characteristics. Time will tell you! Come visit my website ( and my facebook page (Nik-Guerra-official), to see incredible things! |
